Karen Birch Blundell is an Eastern Music Festival alumnae. She joined the EMF faculty in 2005. Currently living in New York City with her husband and daughter, she performs regularly with the Allentown Symphony Orchestra and Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic. She has also performed with the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, Hartford Symphony Orchestra, Springfield Symphony Orchestra, Brooklyn Philharmonic, American Symphony Orchestra, Florida Orchestra, Naples Philharmonic, Florida Philharmonic, Houston Ballet Orchestra and the Houston Symphony.
Prior to moving to New York, Karen was Second Oboe/English horn with the Sarasota Orchestra, and is a former New World Symphony Fellow. Internationally, she has served as Principal oboist and Soloist with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería in Mexico City, and has performed in the Cayman Islands, St. Croix, Panama, France, Germany, Italy, Russia, China and Japan.
Karen is Director of Undergraduate Scholarships for Sigma Alpha Iota Philanthropies, Inc. Sigma Alpha Iota is an International Music Fraternity dedicated to supporting the art of music.
Karen holds degrees from Oberlin Conservatory and the Hartt School of Music. She has studied with James Caldwell, Alex Klein, Humbert Lucarelli and Robert Atherholt.
