Kellen Gray is in his first year as a Conducting Fellow at Eastern Music Festival. Having completed his two-year appointment as assistant conductor of the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra and principal conductor of the Valdosta Symphony Youth Orchestra, he celebrates the 2016-2017 season as a Project Inclusion Freeman Conducting Fellowwith the Chicago Sinfonietta. Since 2013, Gray has served as cover conductor for the Hollywood Concert Orchestra during their winter tours of China. Gray received his earliest musical training from the South Carolina public school system in Rock Hill. He earned his undergraduate degree in violin performance from the Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University in Georgia under the guidance of Patricio Cobos and Sergiu Schwartz, and his master’s degree in orchestral conducting from Valdosta State University with Dr. Howard Hsu. Gray is re-visiting the Schwob School of Music to complete an Artist’s Diploma, under the tutelage of Maestro Paul Hostetter.
