Kevin Maa has been playing the cello since 4th grade. He immediately fell in love with music and joined the Youth Orchestra of Central Jersey (YOCJ). He conducted his first orchestral composition, Warriors of the Orchestra in 7th grade. He performed Vivaldi Double Cello Concerto with his school orchestra in 8th grade. This lead to him performing Dvorak's Cello Concerto with his High School Orchestra and the YOCJ. He was able to sit as principal cellist for NJMEA's Regional and All State Orchestra multiple times throughout his High School and Middle School years.
Kevin Maa began his undergraduate studies with Jonathan Spitz at Rutgers University, he was introduced to Nicholas Tzavaras his Freshman Year through a guest artist concert done by the Shanghai Quartet. The quartet would perform at Rutgers twice a year. Kevin took a less with Professor. Tzavaras and decided to transfer to Montclair State University to complete his undergraduate degree. He is now on track to graduate this May. He has participated in the Hot Springs Music Festival 2014, 2017, National Orchestral Institute 2015 and 2016, and Marrowstone Music Festival 2017, sitting as principal cellist at every festival. You can find Kevin on Instagram playing cello almost every day @kevinmaacello where he posts cello videos to an average audience of 4,000 people every day. You can also find him in downtown Montclair or Princeton street performing Bach or one of his improvisations. When he is away from cello, he loves to play Chopin and Debussy's works on the piano. He is also an avid long distance runner, another passion he had since High School.
