Professor of Double Bass at the Universidade Federal da Paraíba (Brazil), Luciano Carneiro, received his Doctoral of Musical Arts degree from The University of Iowa, Master of Music from Yale University where he studied with double bass virtuoso Gary Karr. He received his Bachelor of Music degree from the New England Conservatory of Music, and has also attended the Franz Liszt Academy at Budapest and the University of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).
His major teachers were Diana Gannett, Gary Karr, William Rhein, Zoltan Tibay, and Bela Wurtzler. He has been Principal bass of the Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo, Orquestra Sinfônica do Rio Grande do Norte and The Eastern Philharmonic Orchestra as well as the double bass section of The Virginia Symphony and the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. He has been a faculty member of the Eastern Music Festival since 1989. He is the recipient of the 1996-97 Henry and Parker Pelzer Award for strings.
Mr. Carneiro has appeared as Soloist with many major orchestras in South America, and presented numerous performances in his native Brazil and in the United States.
