Classical : Festival

Founded in 1961, EMF is one of the country's top summer music festivals – bringing accomplished, world-renowned artists together with exceptionally gifted young musicians from across the U.S. and several continents to study and participate in more than 100 concerts and music-related events for five weeks each summer. Many concerts are held at EMF's home, Guilford College, and some performances are held at venues in downtown Greensboro.
Our Classical program is divided into five series, with performances every night of the week during throughout the five-week festival.
Festival Orchestra Series
Saturdays at 8:00pm in Dana Auditorium at Guilford College
Led by Maestro Gerard Schwarz, the Eastern Festival Orchestra features some of the most extraordinary orchestral and chamber musicians from around the globe. World-renowned classical soloists join the orchestra for a series of five magical evening performances. Musical preludes begin at 7:15 on the front lawn. To learn more about each evening's performance, join us for Musically Speaking at 7:00pm in the Moon Room at Dana Auditorium.
Tannenbaum-Sternberger Young Artists Series
Thursdays and Fridays at 8:00pm in Dana Auditorium, Guilford College
The Young Artists Orchestras are comprised of EMF's outstanding pre-professional musicians. These gifted students, ages 14-22, come from around the world to study and perform in Greensboro. Each week, they rise to the challenge of an increasingly demanding repertoire. They will perform under the baton of four great conductors and six amazing soloists. During week five, young artists are the featured soloists in our Concerto Competition Winners concerts.
Friends & Great Performers Series
Every Wednesday at 8:00pm; Various Locations
From piano and organ to concertos and opera, the Friends & Great Performers Series showcases a range of diverse events in distinctive settings.
UNCG Chamber Series
Every Monday at 8:00pm, UNCG Recital Hall
This series presents thoughtfully selected repertoire performed by our amazingly talented professional musicians. Join us each week when our talented EMF faculty members perform with a variety of outstanding guest artists.
Starmount Chamber Series
Every Tuesday at 8:00pm; Starmount Presbyterian Church
Starmount Presbyterian Church in Greensboro, NC, serves as the perfect backdrop for five evenings of superior performances by EMF's professional faculty playing "the music of friends" for audiences and each other.
