Jeffrey Multer (violin), Julian Schwarz (cello), and Marika Bournaki (piano) have banded together in a new year-round artistic venture – The Mile-End Trio. The three are familiar faces at Eastern Music Festival each summer.

Multer, who is recognized worldwide for his passionate performances, depth of musical understanding and technique, is head of EMF’s violin faculty and is beginning his 21st season as EMF’s concert master. Jeff serves as concertmaster of the Florida Orchestra and performs frequently with orchestras and chamber ensembles around the globe.

Schwarz, who was born to a multigenerational musical family and is the son of EMF’s Music Director Gerard Schwarz, won first prize at the 2016 Boulder International Chamber Music Competition’s “The art of Duo” with Canadian pianist Marika Bournaki. 2018 will mark his sixth season with EMF.  Julian is newly-appointed to the faculty of the Shenandoah Conservatory of Music and he maintains a very busy concert and teaching calendar.

Bournaki, well known as a world-class performer and a brilliant pianist, has appeared as guest soloist with symphonies across the globe. The award-winning documentary I am not a rock star features Bournaki’s evolution as an artist from the age of 12 to 20. Bournaki is looking forward to her third season with EMF in 2018.

The Mile-End Trio’s name is simple – this trio was rehearsing in Bournaki’s native Montreal Canada in the colorful and charming Mile-End neighborhood. Thus, their moniker. Hailed as “richly satisfying” by Classical Voices of North Carolina, The Mile-End Trio made their EMF debut in July 2017.

With his solo playing described as being "remarkable for both its solid power and its delicacy" and his orchestral playing praised as "a rock-solid foundation", Aaron Tindall is the acting principal tubist of the Sarasota Orchestra and the assistant professor of tuba and euphonium at the Frost School of Music - University of Miami.

Aaron has served as the acting principal tubist of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, held the principal tuba position with the Aspen Festival Orchestra where he was an orchestral fellow, and has collaborated as guest tubist with orchestras such as the Teatro alla Scala Opera and Ballet Orchestra - Milan Italy, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra - Australia, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Colorado Symphony Orchestra, Naples Philharmonic, New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, New World Symphony, and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. He is a frequent soloist, guest artist/clinician, and orchestral tubist throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. He has been featured at all of the International Tuba and Euphonium Conferences since 2006, performed in England with the National Champion Grimethorpe Colliery Brass Band, and his solo playing has been heard on NPR's "Performance Today" radio show. 

Tindall has been a prizewinner of many competitions (solo & chamber) across the world. He has also been a two-time finalist in the prestigious Concert Artist Guild Competition, and released three highly acclaimed solo recordings; Transformations (Awarded two 2017 Global Music Awards), This is My House...(Awarded two 2015 Global Music Awards)and Songs of Ascent. 

He previously served on the faculty of the Ithaca College - School of Music, Eastern Michigan University, at Penn State University as a visiting professor, and as a visiting tutor for tuba and euphonium at the Conservatoire National de Region in Perpignan, France. 

His mentors include: Joe Alessi, Roger Bobo, Velvet Brown, Mel Culbertson, Warren Deck, Mike Dunn, Steven Mead, and Dan Perantoni. 

Aaron is a Denis Wick - London artist and design specialist, having recently designed their complete Ultra Range AT signature series tuba mouthpieces. He is also a Buffet Crampon Tuba Artist and Clinician exclusively performing on the MW 2165/2 CC Tuba, a custom built MW 5450-Thor CC Tuba, MW 4450 F Tuba, and the MW 2182/W F Tuba.

KUN WOO PAIK is considered one of the most important pianists of his generation. Born in Seoul, Kun Woo Paik´s first concert was at the age of 10 performing Grieg´s Piano Concerto with the Korean National Orchestra. At the age of 15, Paik moved to New York to study with Rosina Lhevinne at The Julliard School and with Ilona Kabos in London. Paik is the winner of the Naumburg award and gold medalist at the Busoni International Piano Competitions. His international career took off following his first New York appearance, in which he performed complete piano works by Maurice Ravel at the Lincoln Center, and his orchestral debut at the Carnegie Hall.
 
In 1974, Paik made his European debuts with three consecutive recitals at the Wigmore Hall, London, followed in 1975 by a recital in Berlin´s Philharmonie. Since then he has closely collaborated with conductors such as Lorin Maazel, Mariss Jansons, Long Yu, Sir. Neville Marriner, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Jiří Bĕlohlávek, Dmitri Kitaenko, James Conlon, John Nelson, Eliahu Inbal and Antoni Wit, and performed with orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, London Symphony, BBC Symphony, Orchestre de Paris, Berlin Symphony, Hungarian National, Oslo Philharmonic, Rotterdam and Warsaw Philharmonic. He is also a regular guest artist of festivals including Berliner Festwochen, Aix-en-Provence, La Roque d´Anthéron, Ravinia, Mostly Mozart, Colmar, Montreux, Dubrovnik, Aldeburgh and Moscow Easter Festival. He was the first Korean artist to be officially invited by the Chinese government in October 2000.
 
Paik´s numerous recordings include Scriabin, Liszt, complete works for solo piano by Mussorgsky, Rachmaninov´s complete piano concerti and Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini (under Vladimir Fedoseyev for BMG). His complete Prokofiev piano concerti recording received both Diapason d´Or of the year and Nouvelle Académie du disque awards in France.
 
As an exclusive Decca artist and to celebrate JS Bach´s year in 2000, he recorded Busoni´s transcriptions of Bach´s organ works followed by an album of Fauré´s Piano works, which won all the major prizes in France. He recently released the complete works for piano and orchestra by Chopin with Antoni Wit and the Warsaw Philharmonic.
 
Paik has recorded all 32 Sonatas by Beethoven for Decca.“Paik´s sense of drama, his wit, mastery of nuance, thoughtfully weighted chords and fleet-fingered virtuosity, all are remarkable.” (Rob Cowan, The Independent)
 
Paik lives in Paris and is the artistic director of the Emerald Coast Music Festival in Dinard, France, and was made the “Chevalier de l´ordre des arts et des lettres” by the French Government in 2000.

MISHA DICHTER traces his musical heritage to the two great pianistic traditions of the 20th century: the Russian Romantic School as personified by Rosina Lhevinne, his mentor at The Juilliard School, and the German Classical style that was passed on to him by Aube Tzerko, a pupil of Artur Schnabel. Mr. Dichter reveals this dual legacy in his solo recitals and appearances with virtually all the world’s major orchestras, performing the grand virtuoso compositions of Liszt, Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky, as well as music from the central German-Viennese repertoire – works by Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert and Brahms.         

Mr. Dichter’s acclaimed recordings for Philips, RCA, MusicMasters and Koch Classics further illustrate his musical interests.  They include the Brahms piano concerti with Kurt Masur and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, Brahms solo works including the Handel Variations, Beethoven piano sonatas, the complete Liszt Hungarian Rhapsodies, the Liszt Piano Concerti with André Previn and the Pittsburgh Symphony and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue with Neville Marriner and the Philharmonia Orchestra, as well as music of Chopin, Mussorgsky, Schubert, Schumann, Stravinsky and Tchaikovsky.  A noted exponent of Liszt’s piano works and a champion of the composer’s forward-looking contributions to the development of music, Mr. Dichter was honored in 1998 with the “Grand Prix International du Disque Liszt,” presented for his Phillips recording of Liszt piano transcriptions. 

Mr. Dichter’s first recording with Cipa Dichter is a three-CD album of Mozart’s complete piano works for four hands on the Musical Heritage Society label.  American Record Guide called the recording “an unmitigated delight,” and Music Web International named the album a 2005 “Record of the Year.” 

Mr. Dichter was born in Shanghai in 1945, his Polish parents having fled Poland at the outbreak of World War II.  He moved with his family to Los Angeles at the age of 2 and began piano lessons four years later. In addition to his keyboard studies with Aube Tzerko, Mr. Dichter studied composition and analysis with Leonard Stein. He subsequently came to New York to work with Mme. Lhevinne at The Juilliard School.

At the age of 20, while still enrolled at Juilliard, he entered the 1966 Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, where his choice of repertoire – music of Schubert and Beethoven, Rachmaninoff and Stravinsky – reflected the two major influences on his musical development.  Dichter’s stunning triumph at that competition launched his international career.  Almost immediately thereafter, he performed Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 at Tanglewood with Erich Leinsdorf and the Boston Symphony, a concert that was nationally broadcast live on NBC and recorded for RCA.  In 1968, Dichter made his debut with Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic, performing this same concerto. 

Mr. Dichter is an avid tennis player and jogger, as well as a talented sketch artist.  His drawings have been exhibited in New York art galleries. Mr. Dichter lives in New York City with his wife, pianist CIPA DICHTER.  The Dichters have two grown sons.
