BEN FREEDMAN (viola) has enjoyed a prolific career as an orchestral, chamber, and solo violist since 2017. Freedman started viola at the age of ten, studying locally before later earning a bachelor’s degree in Viola Performance from the University of Miami as well as a master’s at the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University. In the past, he has worked and performed nationwide with ensembles such as the Palm Beach Symphony, Frost Symphony Orchestra, Peabody Symphony Orchestra, Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, Fairfax Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra, and the Eastern Festival Orchestra. Freedman has played alongside notable musicians such as Marin Alsop, Benjamin Zander, Gerard Schwarz, Sarah Chang, Lara St John, and Susan Graham. Additionally, he has participated in masterclasses for violists such as Roberto Diaz, Rebecca Young, CJ Chang, Jordan Bak, and Ettore Causa. When not studying viola, Freedman enjoys photography, mountain biking, and finding ways to improve and uplift his community as a proud LGBTQ individual.
