Praised for her “bright and mellifluous tone”, YUE YANG (violin) is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Musical Arts degree under the tutelage of Professor Kurt Sassmannshaus at University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music. As the winner of this year’s CCM violin concerto competition, she performed Sibelius Violin Concerto with CCM Philharmonia under the baton of Maestro Mark Gibson. In February she performed Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with the Starling Orchestra.
Yang was born in Panzhihua, China in 1994. She started learning the violin at 4; but it wasn’t until her undergraduate studies at Bryn Mawr College, PA that she decided to major in music. Since then Yang has appeared as a soloist with many school, festival and professional orchestras. In 2019 she was the recipient of Boca West Scholarship and Strings Scholarship at Lynn Conservatory; that summer, she won second place as well as audience favorite prize at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Young Artist Competition at Texas Music Festival. In November 2021, she performed Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No.1 with Lynn Philharmonia.
Yang holds a Master of Music degree and a Professional Performance Certificate from Lynn Conservatory, FL. In July 2019 Yang won an audition for Ningbo Symphony Orchestra in Ningbo, China. From September 2019 to July 2021, she played in the orchestra’s first violin section. Yang has also made solo appearances with the orchestra in concert halls such as Shanghai Oriental Arts Center, Ningbo Grand Theater, and Ningbo Cultural Plaza Grand Theater.
